t had been quite a while since she had taken Dazzle out for a ride. To her dismay, the mare hadn't calmed down as much as she had wanted her to, therefore she was still the uppity and unpredictable mare that she had taken off the track as a 4 year old only two years ago. No matter what she did, it seemed she was still unable to break the gray mares spirit. All in all, the horse reminded her a lot of herself. No matter how many times she didn't get what she wanted, she still chased after it and never gave in. So, to try and let the horse stretch her legs, she decided it would be a good choice to take her out on the trails. Let her catch the breeze in her mane and enjoy her last year before she became the brood mare she was supposed to become 2 years ago. There was no turning back now, money needed to be made, and it as a business. As close as she was to her horses, Beth needed to learn that Dazzle wasn't her pet, but her business partner - they had standards and limits to keep up with. A reputation to defend.

The second her hooves hit the feeling of a trail, the mare was in a prance and tugging hard on Beth's reins. "Easy now." She murmured to the mare, milking her reins back until the prance was like dancing, though it was at the pace of a walk. A low sigh escaped the breeder's throat and she shook her head - though it was obvious her smile was winning from her annoyance. As much as she wanted to be mad at Dazzle for being so excited and ready to go, she couldn't blame her. She loved to run and Beth loved to breed horses and watch them grow up. She couldn't imagine not being able to breed, therefore she understood how the gray mare felt for not being able to run her little heart out. As they continued into the woods, her steps began to quicken again and a few times she even threw out a small buck to try and knock the rider off her game. But with years of experience, Beth was hardly shaken.

Eventually she seemed to understand that the woman on top of her wasn't going to come off or let her have her way, so she simmered down a bit. And after a few more minutes of behaving, Beth let her pick up her pace into a steady sit trot. When the path cleared to a little water jump, the gray mare's ears perked high on her head and a little nicker left her lips. A devilish grin crawled onto her riders face and she pushed the mare into a post trot, which a few paces from the jump turned into a canter. They cleared the jump easily with time to spare, but now, Dazzle thought she had her way. She threw her head viciously, ripping the reins so hard from Beth's hands that she was burned and small bits of blood splattered onto her hands - not to mention her horse had taken her to a full gallop and was flying down the trail.
[break] [break]
Keeping herself calm even with a bolting horse, she wiped some of the blood off her hands and wrapped one hand tightly around Dazzle's mane, using her other hand to reach her reins and slip them back into her hands. Gritting her teeth she pushed her butt down into the saddle and pulled sharply at first on the reins and then began to milk them back quickly, releasing every time the 6 year old equine responded. Eventually, after what felt like forever, she had the mare down to a sit trot once more, and after another few moments, to a slow and steady walk. A deep sigh and she looked back down at her hands, they were torn right down the center of the palm and still bleeding. Where there wasn't a cut there was a callous from the pressure. A sharp laugh escaped her throat and once again she wiped her hands on her jeans, taking the bandanna that had been holding her bangs out of her face and wrapping it around the hand that was bleeding the most. With the bandanna out, her black hair fell down over her shoulders, reaching her mid back, the blond streak in the front falling over hazel eyes.

Well at least she knew now that Dazzle would be calm out in the pasture tonight.
